Hong Kong, in its past 160 years of history, has always been like this.
Nothing new from her perspective. Tim "Dieter Aaaa" Dieter ¼¶¼g©ó¶l¥ó·s»D ... "PeterL" wrote: one more reason NOT to go there another reason is that people are very frustrated there. Frustrated? About what? a couple of reasons: the forced merge with PRC the (much better) economic situation in cities like Shanghai,.. the gradual replacement of their language by Putonghua/Mandarin the decline of moral values the illegal immigration of extremely poor and uneducated people from PRC countryside |

"mush97" wrote in message ... Hong Kong is really great in winters. It almost has a feel of an English town. one more reason NOT to go there another reason is that people are very frustrated there. The question shouldn't be Bangkok or Hongkong but Bangkok or Shanghai I was in HK ini January, VERY cold, the hotel don't have heating, I used double blankets, still freezing cold. Cold - and wet, it was raining. Food is no good (to me), people not friendly. BKK is totally opposite, still friendly people, tasty food, warm, better hotel etc. Another think, Kai Tak is closed, no more roof top inflight to HK in a 747. /Anders -- Remove the obvious part before replying by mail please! |

"PeterL" wrote Frustrated? About what? HK people have a couple of reasons to be frustrated: the forced merge with PRC Forced by who? What's the alternative? The only way is to accept the global economic reality It is and will be a hard lesson for HK. the (much better) economic situation in cities like Shanghai,.. Shanghai is an up and coming international metropolis. HK is not that much behind. not that much ? Apparently, the HK leaders are fully aware of their problem: Last June, when i was there, there was a survey on the airport among the international business travellers. "do you prefer Shanghai above HongKong" they asked me... "and why ?" "do you think shopping in Shanghai is more pleasant than in Hongkong ?" "and why ?" "do you think hotel accomodation in Shanghai is more modern than in Hongkong ?" "and why ?" the decline of moral values Moral values? Hong Kong? Please don't make me laugh. Has Hong Kong never got any moral values then ? the illegal immigration of extremely poor and uneducated people from PRC countryside You can cite a number of reasons people in any other cities of the world are frustrated. sure Brussels for example: with an average of one gang bang street rape per day (by muslims of course) But in brussels, illegal immigrants are not swimming over the border they are simply welcomed by our socialist government People in Shanghai, for example, are frustrated because cost of living is spiraling out of control, poor people from the countryside are streaming into town to look for work, and creating slums and crime, traffic is impossible, pollution is out of control, and don't talk to me about the moral standard. The crime in Shanghai is not just caused by illegal immigrants Agree, the moral standards in Shanghai are declining but still at a higher level than in many european capitals. In Shanghai, certain people at least do not kill just for fun. |
