Switzerland - Vienna 49 Euro fair
Both the SBB and the ÖBB have a faire schedule that has night train passage
for 29 Euro and couchette (4 to a compartment) at 49 Euro. My questions: is this one way (I assume it is) and is the Couchette charge on in addition to the 29 Euro chair charge? Is there a reservation charge? How far in advance must one book in advance. www.oebb.at and www.sbb.ch while the Austrian site has a banner to click on to take you directly to the fares that I am discussing. Thank you for your help. -- +GF+ www.internationalrailfair.com www.ete.org |

No. The price of EUR 39/49 (6/4-bed-compartment) includes the ticket and the couchette reservation. Is there a reservation charge? No. How far in advance must one book in advance. The earlier you book (bookings are possible from 1 or (?) 2 month prior departure), the higher are your chances to get those "SparNight"-tickets. If there are no SparNight-tickets available for couchette cars it's still to cheaper to buy an SparNight-ticket for a sleeping car (if available). BTW, the standard one-way-fare (2nd class) Zürich - Wien is ~79 EUR (59 EUR with Railplus). -- Helmut Uttenthaler, Graz |

My experience with SparNight tickets is that you can usually get one even close to departure on some days. Especially trains on tuesdays and wednesdays seem rarely fully booked. I've booked a sparnight just three days before departure on one occasion. So if you are flexible in your schedule, have the ticket agent try a few dates... Krist |
