Default SydneyPass - is it a good deal?

Hi,
I will be spending 3 full days in Sydney, and am wondering if the
SydneyPass for $100AUD is a good deal? It seems like a great deal -
especially with the harbor cruises, bus tours, and airport transfers.
Just want to double check before purchasing - seems like too good of a
deal.
Thanks.

Let's put it this way - the following is everything that is included on
the Pass and their individual costs if you did them as single units :

Airport Train to City - AUD11.00 each way
Ten Trip Bus Ticket good for up to 9 zones - AUD21.00
Single Bus Trip Cash payments - City/Short Trip zones - AUD1.70
Single Bus Trip cash payment - Medium trip 2-9 Zones - AUD2.60
Morning Harbour Cruise (City area only) - AUD18.00
Afternoon Harbour Cruise (Extended to Harbour & City) - AUD24.00
Evening Harbour Cruise - AUD22.00
A one day Sydney Explorer (Hop on Hop Off City area highlights)
costs AUD36.00
A one day Bondi & Bay Explorer ticket (Hop on Hop Off) AUD36.00
Single Ferry trip Circular Quay to Zoo - AUD4.80 (AUD9.20 return)
Single Ferry trip Circular Quay to Manly - AUD6.00 (AUD12 return)
Single Short Trip/City Area Train Trip cash - AUD2.80

Considering the Sydney Pass allows unlimited Bus, Train and
Ferry travel for the life of the Pass as well as unlimited use
over the life of the pass for the Explorer hop on, hop off buses,
it's good value. More so if you had actually planned to do a
cruise or two and do the sightseeing hop on, hop offs. The
pass allows you to do half day of one Explorer and resume the
rest of the course on another day - a single day pass is good
just for one day as example.

A day tripper is $15.00. That covers you for public transport anywhere in
Sydney for the day. There are exceptions as shown on the Website
http://www.131500.com.au/fares_daytripper.asp
So buy the Sydney Pass if you are going to be going on the special trips and
are able to use it for airport transfers.

If you are only going to use it for ferry trips and train and bus trips
around Sydney, the day tripper will be fine.

In my experience it is cheaper to take a taxi (even one hailed from the
street) to the airport.
This is especially the case if there are more than 2 of you.

I second that about the Day Tripper ticket as well, even if you bought one
for each day, it's still only $45

With a good Sydney Map or more that you can get from the tourist info centre
at the rocks in George street(just up from the museum of contempory arts)
you can cover a lot of ground/water in 3 days.
As for harbour cruises, while they are good with commentary, with the
Daytripper ticket you can take many numbers of ferrys that travel on the
harbour instead such as Taronga Zoo, Manly, Parramatta and Watsons Bay.
With only 3 days to explore, you can cover a lot of ground with the ordinary
services.
Bondi Beach is easy to get to from Circular Quay, just get on the 380 bus
and it'll take you there.
You can buy the Daytripper ticket directly from the Bus driver on the blue
and white city buses, I know because I'm one of them.
If you are the adventerous type, then the Daytripper is all you need but if
you just want to lay back and take in the sights then the 3 day pass is a
good deal. I use to drive the Sydney Explorer buses a few years back and
they offer all the main attractions around the main city area with
commentary from either the driver or a CD and it has around 20 stops per lap
of the city and you can get on and off as much as you wish and just wait for
the next one to come around when you are ready. They are about every 20
minutes. The Bondi Explorer goes around to the wealthy areas of the Eastern
Suburbs and veiws the harbour and fabulous Sydney beaches.about 2 hours per
lap and hop on/off as you please.
I'm not sure about the Airport transfer part of it any more as the
Government scraped the Airport Express a few years ago now due to the
opening of the airport rail but that is pretty expensive. If you see any
Kingsford Smith minibuses at the airport, you can usually get a ride to your
Hotel as they do hotel drops all round Sydney.

Welcome & Enjoy!!

My only comment to add to above replies is that this is a good value
only if you intend to take advantage of everything offered within the
three days. That doesn't leave much time to actually visit any of the
places that the bus/ferry rides will take you to. If you want to
explore Sydney then the Day Tripper will be more advantageous, if you
want to sit back and have everything shown to you in comfort then
enjoy the Sydney Pass.

We were in Sydney with our Jayco camper trailer two weeks ago and stayed in
Lane Cove River Caravan Park. (excellent park if a bit pricey)
http://users.bigpond.net.au/folcnp/p...van%20park.htm
We stayed there for a week and purchased a Green Travel Pass. These are
actually for commuters but anyone can buy them. The colour of the pass
relates to the distance out of the CBD you are going to travel. The Green
Pass was sufficient for us in North Ryde and allowed us unlimited travel on
all trains within a radius, all buses also within a certain area and all
ferries in the government system. The grand cost of this was $40
(Australian) each. You may wish to check this out on
http://www.cityrail.info/fares/travelpass.jsp
