They even have a separate queue for Brits at immigration.

Not at any airport or crossing point I've been at. I suppose it
might make sense to do that at a terminal which mainly handles
British charter flights.

Heathrow has one at the immigration gate to the domestic flights area in
Terminal 1

Are you sure? UK passports only? (And what of Eire passports, given the
common border etc.) I think that's illegal.

Why EU? let's call it Roman Empire.

grin I like that. A lot... ^_^

Martin D. Pay
And it would certainly fit the way the thing is run - a mostly
powerless senate (the Parliament) pretty much under the thumb of
a ruthless Imperial family (the Commission)...

All we'd need then is a Cassius Chaerea... ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

and a knowledge of the extent of the Roman Empire.

sigh It appears there are still too many humour-deprived folk
around here. I thought the numerous 'smileys' were sufficient,
but apparently not...

Maybe we should call the EU The Holy Roman Empire after UK joins Zimbabwe and
Fiji in what is left of the Commonwealth.

Pfui. You overlooked Canada, Australia and New Zealand (and all
the others, come to that)...

Martin D. Pay
This topic drift has probably gone far enough...

I used the flight connections centre at LHR last week transferring from T1
International to T1 Domestic and there was only one point (just before the
exit to the transit corridor) where passports were checked. The sign just
said "Passports".

It changes.

When it's busy there's a sign that says 'UK Passports' to the left of the
line and aload of desks to the right where everyone else goes.

Although if your spouse stands in the 'non Brit' queue they do let you queue
with them...

Are you 100% sure it doesn't say EEA/EU passports or somesuch?

A Muslim state? Surely Turkey is a secular state? :-)

But more Muslim than it was in the 1920's! (When Turkey
gave women the vote even before the U.S. did.)

maybe EU should outlaw "established" churches.

That was SUPPOSEDLY what the U.S. did in its Constitution,
although that's hard to believe since Bush came to power
paying lip-service to "Christian family values"! The fact
he manages to toady to the "Religious Right" on the one side
and Corporate Autocracy on the other shows a singular lack
of logical reasoning on the part of his evangelical
adherents. (But then "logical evangelism" would be an
oxymoron, wouldn't it?)

Make credence recognised that on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 10:28:39 +0200,
"Turan Fettahoglu" has scripted:

Frowned up on? People have proposed chemical castration.

Hope I am not too curious: how old were you when you kissed or caressed a
girl for the first time?

I still remember how completely odd my first kiss was. I've had more
passionate interactions with light switches.

Hmmm... what if both the boy and the girl were 13 and had sex? Who would
be arrested?

I do not know when youths enter the age of discretion (Strafmündigkeit) in
Turkey. In Germany it would be 14 years, so both offenders could not be
prosecuted.

Perhaps this page might help a bit: http://piology.org/dtl/recht.html

The legal age of consent is 18 in Turkey, so it is irrelevant that the girl
claimed to be 15. In Germany the boy could save himself with this.

But never mind what happened: it is just a bit too much to put a 17-year-old
boy into jail if the girl still is a virgin!

Why can't judges be free to make decisions without the interference of
law makers?

Why? Almost 50% of the UK support admitting Turkey-

do they really! Thats a surprise.

....as long as the UK doesn't join that is.

If there was a referendum on the euro however, it would be voted down,
and I'd be among the no voters.

Why?

I think we did Economics 101 just recently, didn't we? Frank explained
the downside of the Euro.
