In general, the sheap hotels are not going to be in a good location.

Any other additional information on going around in Salzburg would be
highly appreciated, Is it worthwhile to take a salzburg pass, if we
want to visit the Alps and Salt mine ?
Should we go for package tours or manage our tours on our own ?

If you have a car, I recommend doing it yourself. The package tours
are on a bus, and tours like "The Sound of Music" tour are
unbelievably kitsch-y. Unbelievably. If you have time, drive to
Halstatt, not far, which is often referred to as the most beautiful
town in Austria. And it has a great salt mine. And a lake where you
can rent boats. And outdoor cafes. And snow-capped mountains. Look it
up on the internet.

Thanks everyone for ur valuable inputs.

I need some information on reaching GrossGlockner from Salzburg.

Is there any public transport available which can be used for touring
GrossGlockner.
