Visas: Alexandria

We are scheduled to take a Holland America cruise on May 14 with ports
Athens, Istanbul, Alexandria, Limassol (Cyprus), Haiffa, Constanta
(Bulgaria), Varna (Romania), and Odessa (Ukraine). From what I gather
on the web, some of these places require a visa and these visas can be
obtained in port.

I am unclear about Alexandria. How are visas handled there?

Do I need to worry about arranging visas in advance for any of these
ports. I hold a U.S. passport.

Check the State Dept website and try calling the embassy or counselate
closest to you. And call HAL. But May 14 is pretty close. Some of
these places require 2 months lead time. I know you can get a Russian
visa in two days if you go to DC. But when I asked, the receptionist
told me "two days" meant if you dropped the stuff off at 2 on Monday,
you would get it back 48 hours later. ie 2pm on Wednesday. And not
any sooner (although the rat ******* probably had it ready by 5 on
Monday). In the other extreme, it took me 45 seconds to get my visa
for Australia.
