Default TSA Security Makes Passenger Remove Nipple Ring With Pliers

Article published Mar 29, 2008
Security flap arises over nipple ring removal

March 29, 2008

By Audrey Hudson - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
yesterday stood by its decision to require a Texas airline passenger to
remove a nipple ring with pliers before boarding a flight, but says more
discreet screening procedures may allow sensitively placed piercings to
be worn in the future.

"TSA acknowledges that our procedures caused difficulty for the
passenger involved and regrets her discomfort with the situation," said
TSA spokesman Christopher White.

"In the future, TSA's procedures will meet the security need while
giving additional flexibility for this kind of screening situation," Mr.
White said. "This could include a visual inspection without removal."

Mandi Hamlin, 37-year-old graphics artist, said she was forced to remove
the nipple ring with pliers on Feb. 24 before boarding Southwest Flight
35 from Lubbock, Texas, to Dallas.

Gloria Allred, Ms. Hamlin's lawyer, read from a letter to the TSA during
a video teleconference Thursday asking the TSA's Office of Civil Rights
and Liberties to investigate the incident.

"After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the
piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to
remove," Ms. Allred said in the letter.

"Still crying, she informed the TSA officer that she could not remove it
without the help of pliers, and the officer gave a pair to her," said
Ms. Allred.

A visual inspection of nipple rings is really necessary? Does TSA
really expect exploding nipple rings or something? What about a
Prince Albert? This is just absurd.

The sheeple voted for anti-democratic neocon globalists.. and they got
em.

The ACLU hasn't done squat to roll back these new anti-constitutional
rules - but would rather spend their resources litigating for the
right of snot-nosed 'transgendered' kids to meet to discuss how
screwed up they feel about themselves.

They probably believe that if someone were to expose their nipple
rings or Prince Albert in flight, the airline staff would be shocked
into catatonia and unable to resist an effort to storm the cockpit.

Who knows, they may be right. This is Texans we're talking about.

Probaly a wild guess, but I imagine the employee responsible was some
neo-con good old boy from a couple generations back who really wanted
to stick it to a Gen-Xer. Do they make everyone take off their
earrings when passing through?

MAny of those "snot nosed"(as you call them) transgendered kids end
up getting abused and thrown out into the streets by their own parents
because of the hate you neo-con assholes spread. Also, the ACLU has
protected right-wing establishments as well, don't forget that.

to meet to discuss how
screwed up they feel about themselves.

These TSA screeners don't have a clue if they think a nipple ring
is a safety threat. When was the last time anyone was assaulted with a
nipple ring?
If a metal detector cannot distinguish a nipple ring from a knife or
handgun, then it's time for new metal detectors. Or, at least, reduce
their sensitivity so as to ignore pieces of metal too small to be of
any significance.
Besides, aren't most pieces of jewelry made of non-ferrous metals?

Could not be made-up, too absurd not to believe.

Eat your heart-out..no....uh..spin in your grave, Joseph Yossarian
Heller, the CATCH 22 novelist.

If it's not yet an airport gossip non myth, then it shall soon.

Ouchhh

Stuff Happens: like slamming car door on pne's finger.

And such as:

At about 14 years of age, while fishing off a bridge I elatedly hooked
a semi ferocious fish, but then Murphy's Law kicked in:

They cut the barb of the hook that went thru my finger and so then
they could pull the remnant out.

Ouchhh

The damne fish happily jumped back in, and is still laughing.

Moral of story: Don't do titty ring if ya don't wanna be the talk of
bored airplane people, and do wear work gloves before removing a fishy
from a hookey.

You seem to miss the point..
TSA and the other neocons have no right to preclude the wearing of
jewelry by any citizen.
Nor even question it.
