Any recommendations for annual travel insurance for a couple approaching 70?
Last years European cover (with Preferential) of £118 is now going up to
£153 and this year we need Worldwide. No major health problems, last year my
controlled hypertension and acid reflux was included in the quote. Since
then a small aortic aneurysm has been discovered which will be measured
again in 18 months and my blood sugar has gone up to 7.3 which medicine by
numbers says is Diabetic as the normal limit is 7.1! When I asked my doctor
what to say to an insurance company, he said "Tell them nothing, none of it
is really a factor"
Derek.

I cannot answer your principal question, but while I might trust your
doctor on medical matters, I would not take his advice on insurance.
If you have a problem based on a known pre-existing medical condition,
your insurer would be entitled to void your claim.

looking at one web site where you can apply for Travel insurance, the
Question about "pre existing medical condition" is this:
QUOTE
Q - I have a medical condition, can I be covered?
A - Before you buy a policy, we ask you to confirm that you are NOT

a.. receiving or on a waiting list for treatment in a hospital or nursing
home
b.. travelling against the advice of a medically qualified doctor
c.. travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment
d.. travelling after being given a terminal prognosis
If you can confirm all these points you can buy our cover online

UNQUOTE

To me the conditions mentioned clearly do not affect this policy paying
out. But of course each insurer is possibly looking at these conditions
differently. One web site worth looking at which contains many comparisons
and information is :
http://www.moneysupermarket.com/Trav...nce/?gsl=1&p=0

My mother (age 73) was quoted £189.05 for single person worldwide cover with
Preferential ( this includes 5% discount for no claims).
LLoyds TSB have quoted £111.77 for the same level of cover, Ph. 0800 072
3321.
Eagle star also are supposed to be reasonably priced for senior cover,
though I haven't got through to them yet, Ph 0800 555 200

Exactly, that was why I asked his advice on what should be told.

Moneysupermarket who proudly boasted over 1400 insurers only came up with
two options and then said
"Unfortunately Moneysupermarket is unable to provide a quote for those with
pre-existing medical conditons" (their spelling)
Derek.

I've been quoted by them before and found them to be very expensive

Recent report in Which? recommends the following as good for world-wide
annual cover for 65-69 year olds, with quote:
www.annualcoverdirect.co.uk £54
www.marksandspencer.com/travelinsurance £63
www.goldfish.com £83
www.insureandgo.com £85
National Australia Group £89 from Clydesdale, Northern and Yorkshire Bank.

Other than Goldfish and Netcover, the others are also good for those with
pre-existing medical condition, as being most flexible (researchers posed as
customers with high blood pressure, slipped disk and diabetes).

I will soon be 70.

www.annualcoverdirect.co.uk £54

Age limit 69

www.marksandspencer.com/travelinsurance £63

Marks & Spencer Travel Insurance has no age limit for single trip cover.
However, their annual multi trip product is not available to persons aged
over 70

www.goldfish.com £83

Goldfish does not do travel insurance except by phone
www.insureandgo.com £85

Their quote without any medical conditions £109.40 per person.

National Australia Group £89 from Clydesdale, Northern and Yorkshire Bank.

I will enquire at my local Clydesdale.
Derek.
