Ljubljana
We will be driving from Austria to Croatia in June, and it appears that
Ljubljiana is right on our course. Anybody been there that can advise as to whether it is worth building in time to stop there for a bit? What are the sights? Also, since we would be traveling with luggage, how huge is the concern of leaving the car unattended for a couple hours in that part of the world. Of course, there are never any guarantees, but some places in Europe are a little safer than others. And finally - would somebody be willing to brave a phonetic spelling of Ljubljana. I've made a couple guesses, but I have no idea as to whether I'm even in the ballpark. Thanks. Paul |

It's nicer than you might expect but not exactly in the top 100 sights of Europe. There are better places in Slovenia to stop if you only have one day. Ljubljana. I've made a couple guesses, but I have no idea as to whether I'm even in the ballpark. It is phonetic already. The J is a Y sound. The u is like the vowel in "wood". Stress on the second syllable. ============== j-c ====== @ ====== purr . demon . co . uk ============== Jack Campin: 11 Third St, Newtongrange EH22 4PU, Scotland | tel 0131 660 4760 http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/ for CD-ROMs and free | fax 0870 0554 975 stuff: Scottish music, food intolerance, & Mac logic fonts | mob 07800 739 557 |

Hi Tim: We are going to Slovenia on our way to Croatia likely in mid-late
May. As a Canadian who has visited many countries in Europe, Slovenia is on my list of top 3. I just received travel literature from Slovenia and I think we are going to spend much more time there, then we had planned. The only place that I can recommend is about 1/2 hour NW of Ljubljana called Skope Loka. It is a most beautiful town and the people there were certainly as friendly as we have found anywhere. BTW I would be interested in hearing/exchanging any info you might have about Croatia since this will be our first visit there (reply personally via email) Joe ================================================== ==== We will be driving from Austria to Croatia in June, and it appears that Ljubljiana is right on our course. What are the sights? yes it only takes a couple of hours to see. you can drive up to the castle to save your legs. the tourist board have a very good website. but lake bled is picturesque, and lake bohinj is apparently more so, depends what you prefer, towns or countryside. |
