Detroit Airport
I noticed in my Triple A newsletter that Detroit opened a new airport in Feb
02. Pittsburgh, where I live, has an airport with a airport mall which is now not open to the public, but only ticketed passengers because of 9/11. I was wondering if the Detroit airport was designed the same way, and if the mall was behind security, were they able to redesign it after 9/11 to let the general public use it. Thanks Tom |

No, it's behind security. I don't think the "mall" part of it is all that large. I noticed fewer than a dozen non-restaurants in the shopping court when I passed through last month. |

Absolutely Correct; Very few non-food shops in Detroit. "Malls" in all Airports are good for "Browsing" to kill time, but with prices so outrageous, it's not a good idea to do your shopping at an airport. Also - Detroit is laid out in a straight line. If connecting, bring your hiking shoes. It looks like about 1/4 mile long. There is a train running from one end to the other, but it only stops in the center. No time for shopping anyway. |
