... word of caution locals consider tourists as fair game to be liberated of any and all of their belongings make sure it is duct-taped to your body That's absolute nonesense. I'm a local in Hawaii and I've never "liberated" anyone else's belongings in my life, nor do I know of anyone who has. There are thieves all over the world and your insulting attempt to portray ALL Hawaiians as thieves is ludicrous and hysterical. Yes, there are thieves in Hawaii and things do get stolen. Even though perhaps nothing has ever been stolen in the county where you live, it could happen some day. Perhaps in the future you can also take vacations to destinations where nothing has ever been stolen, then you can save your duct tape to cover your keyboard and your mouth. Their main departure cities for Hawaii are LAX and SFO via ATA (www.ata.com) airlines. If that's the same company formerly known as "Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays", I can endorse your recommendation. I've used them and they made good on my one complaint. What was that? The air conditioner on the bus to the Mormon village broke. The driver stopped and waited for another bus to come along. I screamed at him that "we can get air conditioning anywhere but we cannot see or do what can be seen or done at our destination anywhere else. Let's go!" Well, the consequence of the late arrival was missing much and I was furious. Got a refund on that portion of the trip. All else was as advertised and an excellent value. I would not hesitate to use them again. __________________________________________________ ___________ A San Franciscan who's visited 49 of 50 US states http://geocities.com/dancefest/ http://geocities.com/iconoc/ ICQ: http://wwp.mirabilis.com/19098103 IClast at SFbay Net |

I don't mean to take side on the crime issue, but it happens
everywhere. We have been to Venice,Paris,Rome etc. signs are posted warning visitors to be ware. I live in Los Angeles and the papers are full of "daily" drive by shootings, yet the city still promotes tourism. Be aware. make sure it is duct-taped to your body
Try a moneybelt instead. It's a fabric pouch with an elastic strap that you wear under your clothes. I started wearing one on my vacations after I heard European travel expert Rick Steves recommend them, and they're great. I keep my passport, plane tickets, and most of my cash in them. In my wallet I only keep one credit card and whatever cash I need for that one day. http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/moneybelt.htm ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Remove "NOSPAM" from my address when sending me e-mail. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ - |

And the link you provided does not indicate that all locals feel this way or act accordingly. Maybe you should give up hysteria. The crime in Hawaii, whether it be pilfering, petty theft or grand theft is a walk in the park compared to Los Angeles, New York, the Caribbean, Rome, Mexico, Rio de Janeiro, etc., etc., etc., KM -- (-:alohacyberian:-) At my website there are 3000 live cameras or visit NASA, play games, read jokes, send greeting cards & connect to CNN news, NBA, the White House, Academy Awards or learn all about Hawaii, Israel and mo http://keith.martin.home.att.net/ |
