Default Great Land Cruise - Las Vegas Update

Time for an update....

Finally... we have a place to have our dinner. The criteria I used in
selecting a place were location, quality, price and the willingness of the
restaurant to be flexible for our varied tastes. Right now we have 21
people confirmed for dinner with another 9 possible/maybe/probable.

Whe Sazio Restaurant http://www.orleanscasino.com/restaurants/sazio.html

Sazio is located in the Orleans Hotel and Casino
http://www.orleanscasino.com/hotel/index.html It is located on Flamingo
Road less then 1 mile west of Las Vegas Blvd (The Strip). It should be a
short, easy drive or cab ride. The Orleans also has free shuttle service
from the Barbary Coast which is on Flamingo very near The Strip.

How Much: That depends on what you order. The management of Sazio will
allow us to order off the regular menu. There is an emphasis on Italian
food, but there are plenty of other choices. I am sure that everyone will
be able to find something they like. Most entree's are in the $10 to $16
range.

Getting around Las Vegas from our man on the scene:

Good news for the GLC! The Las Vegas Monorail is open for business
and will be serving the GLC suggested hotel, the Flamingo.
http://tinyurl.com/2m5nr for those of you not familiar with this revised
attraction, this is similar to the Disney monorail found at Disneyland and
Disneyworld. Years ago, a monorail was constructed to link Bally's Casino
with the (then) new MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. It ran behind the two, for
a distance of approximately 3 city blocks.

It was this existing monorail that formed the basis for the new, privately
funded Las Vegas Monorail that opens the 15th. It is an extension of this
trackage that runs behind the strip to Flamingo Road, then takes a sharp
turn to Paradise, to also serve the Las Vegas Convention Center and Hilton
Hotel and Casino. Passage is $10 per day, with single ride prices available
as well.

One difference between the new Las Vegas Monorail and it's grandparents at
the Disney parks is that our new monorail has no conductor. Instead, it is
computer operated, which in part is what caused its delay in opening. The
manufacturer, a Canadian company, had to first operate the monorail trains
for 30 days without any programming errors, breakdowns or flaws. These
tests have now been successfully completed and the monorail has been
accepted for service.

There is a future extension of this system now in the works to carry folks
clear downtown and also another leg planned to the airport. However, these
are future expansions and the GLC attendees will still have to rely on taxis
and shuttles to reach the Strip hotel.
------------------------

When the monorail opened, there was bus service from the north end to the
Downtown area but that has been discontinued this past week.

We will have a great time.
