Carte Orange hebdomadaire is the best value for money. It is useable on
all the intergated system (bus, métro, RER&Transilien trains).

Zones 1-2 will cover central Paris, 15.7 Euros
zones 1-4 will take you to Versailles, 25.5 Euros
zones 1-5 to CDG airport. 30.9 Euros

BUT it has a big drawback: it is not day to day+7, it is Monday morning
to Sunday evening. It is to change in a few years with the new Navigo
card (an Oyster-like RFID chip.)

There is a tourist-aimed card "Paris Visite". It is basically a tourist
Carte Orange with a few gadgets like discounts at museums. It is
noticeably more expensive:

Zones 1 jour 2 jours 3 jours 5 jours
Adulte Adulte Adulte Adulte
Euros Euros Euros Euros
1-3 8,35 13,70 18,25 26,65
1-5 16,75 26,65 37,35 45,70
1-8 23,60 34,30 42,65 53,35

But it has day to day+5 vailidity.

Both need an ID picture.

Right: this is THE big problem of "Carte Orange Hebdo": it's designed
for commuters and not for tourists. I never understood why it's not
possible to get a ticket from wednesday to tuesday...

Because Paris Visite is more expensive, so more Euros for the RATP, SNCF
and co: apart from the visitors, who needs the sliding validity period?

(same applies for montlhy Carte Orange, although the drawback is diluted
over 30 days)

You don't need a photo to buy a Paris Visite card. You do need one for
a Carte Orange.

The alternatives are to rely on single tickets (buy 10 in a Carnet for
10.70 euros) or a 1-day Mobilis card for 5.40 euros (zones 1-2).

Information about tickets is at www.ratp.fr. For English-language
pages, click on "International passengers".

In London, it serves the useful purpose of "spreading" the load at ticket
offices over the week or month, rather than having massive queues on Mondays
or on the first of each month. I should think that the same would be true of
paris.
