Default Costa Rica: U.S. seniors fight off muggers, killing one

Just read this article on CNN. It is of interest since the seniors were
on a tour off of the Carnival Liberty.

We were in Limon in january, but we didn't leave the pier area. I wonder
if these cruise passengers were on a private tour, a cruise ship
excursion or on their own?

Can't tell from the article but I expect that will be known soon.

I have been in Limon twice, once I took a cruise line excursion which
used a bus and the second time was a private excursion I booked on the
pier. I also walked a few blocks into the city with no problem.

I questioned your reference to Limon until I reread the CNN article.
Earlier today, I had *misread* it and, thinking the incident ocurred
in San Jose, fired off an email to my TA telling her I wouldn't be
going on an excursion to San Jose any time soon. I am booked for
October on the Coral Princess and we'll be docking in...Limon!

There is a thread on the Carnival cruisecritic board and they are also
wondering private/cruise line etc.

The first time we were in Limon we took a ships excursion and the our
driver, our guide and the others involved in our excursion were very
nice. We never had to worry about our safety.

This time the people who were selling tours on the pier, were very
friendly and not at all pushy. If we had felt up to taking a tour, I
would not of hesitated to book with one of them.

Since there were 12 on a bus it was probably some kind of tour.
