Default Edinburgh City to Edinburgh Airport

Is their train service from Edinbugh City Centre to the Edinburgh
Airport? I went to the airport's web site and the following was
the web page on getting to and from the airport by train:

"Edinburgh's main railway station (Waverly) is in the city centre and can be reached by taxi or bus.
From here there are services to Glasgow and a variety of other destinations in Scotland and England.
Most train services also operate from Edinburgh Haymarket station which is on the main bus route
between the airport and city centre."

It discusses a bus between the airport and the city, but no where does
it say "Yes, there is train service to the airport" or "No, there is no train
service to the airport"

We have a Sunday moring 9:00am flight in mid May. In lots of cities, public
transportation on a Sunday morning is hard to find. Taxis are also hard to
find. So I want to make sure I can get to the airport.

Any advice would be helpful.

I agree that it's not clear, but it does say the stations can be reached
by taxi or bus from the airport- they should have made it clearer that
the airport doesn't have a station itself!

Shouldn't be a problem by bus, assuming you're close to the route.
Otherwise, I've found taxis reliable when ordered by telephone in
Edinburgh.

No.

The main line north over the Forth Bridge goes within a few *yards* of
the end of the runway but we are continually told it'd take tens of
millions and the building of a complete new line to get a rail service
to the airport. Yeah, right.

The night bus service has been improved recently so it should be doable
from many places way outside the city - I'm eight or nine miles from the
city centre but could easily get an early morning flight using buses only.

They are. They have also been given such extraordinary special deals
(flagrantly illegal under current EU competition law) that there is
obviously some deeply criminal corruption about the service going back
decades. Mainly, the mysterious absence of a competing railway.

I agree- it would seem obvious to just build a a station around that,
but I seem to remember reading on another group (uk.railways) that it
was more complicated than it seemed.

That's good to know.

If they say the station is in the city centre, then it follows there
is no station at the airport, doesn't it?

There are direct buses, as your quote indicates, which, as the website
indicates, run through the night.

Airport managers don't customarily make it difficult to use their
services.

Yes, but when the website has the sub-directory "To and from our
airport" and then the _first_ category is "by Train" that seems a bit
disingenuous to me. They could at least have began by noting that the
airport doesn't have a train station- the wording could confuse some
readers, as it clearly did.

I believe the bus from the airport to the centre is only £5.

SNIP

Edinburgh airport, and news of progress on implementing them, see :

Only? You consider that cheap in your world?

It's a bit less than that, I think. Cheaper if you get a return
fare..

If you're not in a hurry it's cheaper to get the no.35 city bus,
but it takes a devious route (threading through a business park)
and takes an hour to get there.
