Default different traffic light sequences from state to state- causeaccidents

After all- since driving on the right side of the road is a national
rule-UNIFORM signaling should be one also.

demand a UNIFORM national STANDARD for traffic signal design and light
sequences!!!

email/write your congressman

World wide economic recession, war in the middle east, terrorism,
national budget deficit, social security funding, universal
healthcare. And I am going to write my congressman about traffic
signal?

Different state to state??? Try intersection to intersection! But one
thing is always the same - they will be green until I approach and then
immediately turn RED!!!!

They don't differ from state to state except in timing. An operation of
Murphy's Law I guess. Another one is where you want to read something at
the next red light. This guarantees that the next 6 lights will be
green. A similar thing is when you unfasten your seat belt to get into a
pocket and intend to refasten at the next light. Murphy is alive and
well!

That already existes. The US Department of Transportation or the
Federal Highway Administration should be able to provide you with
details, so you can grab a stopwatch and check if the timing of a
particular traffic light is within the limits.

Great idea. Maybe he will send you a copy of the "Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices"?

Of course they differ! Just like intersections do - and
different intersections require different schemes, according
to size, traffic, road conditions etc.; some might have
extra signals, like arrows for left turns...

Even the same traffic lights may differ, depending on the
time of day (rush hours traffic vs. 3:00am Sundays g)

There isn't such a thing as a "one size fits all" light sequence.

True enough but what I meant was that they don't differ in patterns
like, for instance, in Germany where there is a red and yellow
combination to let people get ready to let out the clutch (or whatever
you do with it :-)

Would you like to comment on (or defend) a ONE SECOND YELLOW LIGHT
next to a ticketing camera?!
