Hi All,
We hope to be spending some time in Cranford, New Jersey soon and would
like to visit New york a couple of times. How easy is to get into New York?
Does the subway or commuter trains go there or is it best to drive (don't
laugh).
Many thanks

Ferret

NJ Transit has commuter trains from Cranford to Penn Station in NY.
Trip is about 45 minutes. Service is hourly or better.

Buses get stuck in traffic so the train is definitely the best bet.

As one who lives in Cranford, my experience has been that the NJ Transit
trains run to Penn Station in Newark, NJ. You must transfer to another
train to complete the trip into Penn Station NYC. Admittedly, I haven't
taken the train lately. It might be that the train goes through to NYC
now. It would probably be a good idea to check stops.

If indeed you still need to change trains at Penn Station, Newark NJ the
OP can avoid this by catching the NJ Transit train from Linden, NJ train
station. That one has traditionally gone through to NYC.

Take Centennial Avenue over the Garden State Parkway. Go straight
ahead. When you pass the brick St John the Apostle church on your right
at the next traffic light turn left. This will put you on Styles
Street. Follow this past the Pathmark supermarket on your right. After
you go under the train trestle, take a left at the light. This will
bring you to one of the parking areas of the Linden Train station. The
station itself is on Wood Avenue across the street from a sports bar.

You can get bus and train schedules at the Cranford Public Library. The
library is located on Walnut Avenue and is connected to the Cranford
Community Center. You can't miss it. It's a big brick complex.

While in town you may want to try: Marino's Seafood Market on North
Avenue, Garlic Rose on North Avenue, and the Rustic Mill Diner.
