How old are your kids?

I'm thinking of taking the family to Salt Lake City and making our way to
Vegas for a few days this summer. I love the southwest and I cant pass up
some extraordinary fares to Salt lake City that make it worthwhile to take
the whole family, so starting there is a must.

We have done the Grand Canyon so that won't be part of the itinerary. I
would like to do Escalante, Moab, Canyonlands and Monument Valley, but it
seems to much to drive to all those and then head to Vegas, via Zion and
Bryce (??) and back to Slat lake City, all in 10 days.

Any advice on doing all that, or what should be priority with kids? They
love swimming and horseback riding. not so much the oohing and awing that I
do at the natural sights, but they aren't deathly bored by it either.

Thanks,

From travels with my kids when they were that age, I learned to cut
back on the daily driving, and to get them involved in the trip
planning and itinerary. In other words, get them involved right now,
otherwise it will become "your trip" and they can then feel justified
in complaining. The suggestion to visit Best Friends in Kanab is a
good one. Also, try to arrange to get them out hiking in the mornings
before it gets hot. Then save your driving for the heat of the day.
And try to find lodgings with pools. That helps a lot.

You'll have fun. Sometimes I wish my kids were that age again!!

Las Vegas is not a good destination for kids, having lost its "family
friendly" focus several years ago.

I'll second that. I wouldn't subject my kids to that place.

I agree, the town is really more for adults. However there are
things appropriate for kids there if you're selective. I believe
there are a few web sites that discuss the subject; do a google
search for "las vegas for kids" or something along those lines.
