Default Samsonite telescope handle jammed

The telescopic handle on my wife's Samsonite carry-on jammed open in the
extended position last week in the middle of a business trip, I've just
spent the last few hours trying to fix it without success.
The lining material unzips to reveal the base of the telescopic tubes
inside the case, to get any further I had to remove the handle and
several screws to reveal the problem - in the extended position two
locking pins pop out of the sides of the tubes inside the case, and no
amount of lube, pushing or shuffling gets the mechanism working again.
Any more disassembly means virtually tearing the case to pieces.
This is really frustrating, and it looks like we'll have to get a
replacement, although it's not even two years old. Does anyone have
recommendations? Need a carry-on size with four wheels and separate
sections for documents and clothes. I used to think Samsonite was the
best, but not any longer.

I use a cheap 'pilot case', got it from Aldi for about £40.

Only two wheels though.

My wife has an elderly but incredibly rugged (twenty years old now and
no damage, just scuffed) Pierre Cardin carry-on but I don't think they
still make them, and again, it's only got two wheels.

I had this problem once with a different type of suitcase. It turned
out, after I had strip the whole thing apart, that the problem was not
so much to do with the telescopic tubes, but the mechanism at the
handle. The bit you press/squeeze to release the telescopic facility.

Samsonite claim to have a 10 year warranty: have you tried to use it?

I'm not sure where you are. Magellan's most recent catalog (in the
U.S.) featured some attractive and colorful soft-sided luggage from a
French manufacturer. If I were still traveling and needed luggage, I'd
be tempted.

The button in the handle retracts the pins higher up on the telescope
arms, and that works.

Well, one problem is that she bought the case in Spain, and has no
proof of purchase. But I'm going to take the case over to a specialist
store tomorrow and see what they say.

Take a look at Eagle Creek ORV Trunk 22
Entire interior is non-partitioned. Documents go in an outside
pocket...accessible by horizontal zipper across the *bottom* of the bag.
Small zippered pocket accessible at the outside top of the bag. Luggage
tag/ID accessible on side of bag via zipper.
Only 2 wheels though.
(My wife likes hers.)
