yep- the Unkster has it right. Pick a region and go for it by cart and
train. cars are about U$30-50 day, driver included. Trains are handy for
overnight sleeper berths.

in the south you could do a Tamil temple tour with a beach or 2 thrown in,

Karnataks could be nicely done in 2 weeks- Hampi, Badami areaBijapur, Mysore
area, Belur/Halebid, coast.

In deciding where to concentrate, go with where the weather is prime.

By plane ?

If you limit the areas you visit, you can see quite a lot in 15 days
without using planes. A standard tour would start at Delhi, Jaipur,
Agra, Khajuraho to Varanasi and back to Delhi (stay a night at
Orchha). All by bus/train.

Another possibility would be a Rajasthan tour: Delhi - Jaipur - Bundi
- Udaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer.

I'd rather argue against using planes: You see nothing and it is also
quite expensive in India - special foreigners prices. Trains are fine
and for shorter distances busses are the way to travel, frequent and
dirt cheap.

But if you go cart, make sure to use a horse-drawn cart. The donkey and
buffalo carts are really slow.
