"I Don't Like Americans": Letters to the Editor of Le Monde

Or the lack thereof, since the main topic was government control of a woman's access to contraception (or rather allowing employers' and pharmacists' religious views to interfere with that access). Evelyn, you very well know that ALL women who wish any form of contraception can acquire it for FREE at any Planned Parenthood facility or non-religious college or university clinic. It has ALWAYS been that way. You haven't been following the numerous attacks on Planned Parenthood that have been taking place in the more conservative states, have you? I agree, it HAD "always been that way" (at least since Roe v Wade), but in many states it no longer IS! Let's not continue to make this an issue of contraception...that is what the Democrats want everyone to believe. The real issue is FREEDOM of RELIGION...the freedom to practice ones religion according to church law and doctrine. The government has NO right to change the doctrine teachings of ANY religion, in this case the Roman Catholic Church, and force Catholic institutions (such as hospitals) to provide abortions or medications/procedures to end life. Well, that depends upon whether one considers hospitals "religious" or "scientific" institutions, doesn't it? I have no quarrel with any woman following her own conscience in such matters (although I firmly believe unrelated male opinion has no place in the controversy). Why are you even bringing this discussion to rec.travel Europe? Huh? I know you enjoy taking potshots at me, but it was not I who began this thread! |

They are just that...verbal attacks, nothing else...you don't believe in freedom of speech unless it is something with which you agree ??? The law of Roe v. Wade has not been changed nor has the accessability of women to the use of Planned Parenthood's facilities. I LIVE in a conservative state! So do I (unfortunately). I think you should pay a bit more attention to legislation being passed without media fanfare - it is the limiting of accessibility to which I am objecting! (So long as choice remains free, freedom of discussion SHOULD be a protected right.) |
