Default Travel to J-burg questions

I have to accompany my wife to J-burg (and for a few days Capetown) in
July. Here are a few questions who would rather stay in Paris, where
we are living for the summer.

1. Weather. Coats and sweaters are a must I presume?
2. Shots. Med sites list a bunch of recommended ones, but are they
really needed?
3. Visa for a US citizen? Any special passport requirements for a one
week tourism/business visit?
4. Everyone I know in the states who came from S.A. recently says
theyare glad they left and it is full of crime. Is there anything of
interest in J-burg for me to do in the city while wife is working?
5. How do we get from J-burg to Capetown?
6. Odds of beaing bored, getting sick, mugged, etc?

Cranky traveler.

If that is your attitude then don't go. You will of course miss a beautiful
country. The odds of being mugged etc. are probably higher in certain towns
and States in the USA. Joburg is, in the main, to be avoided but the
northern suburbs are still nice. Paris - yuk. From a well travelled Scot.

And what word would you use to describe a person who would make such a broad
generalization about a rather diverse group of people?

Scott

p.s. I am not an American and have no desire to ever be one.

True enough that we're not all bad...seems like a 50/50 split in those who
vote, but that really translates to 75/25 when you speak to Americans "in
the street".
Jo'berg has had lots of rumors swirling, and since it's a very long flight
from the US, folks tend towards favoring the bad news rather than looking
for the silver lining. There is good music, food, and even nearby wildlife
there, so it really depends on the intrepid nature of the traveler.

That is proof? You must have a background in Science ; |
I'm a Yank, not ashamed, and I loved South Africa. I can't wait to return.
My experience is on the West coast, from the Cape, North. When I go back,
I'll try some warm East coast waters.
Stuff your prejudiced remarks, Peter. You are the ignorant one.

It is not prejudice, but experience. Who is prejudiced. Ask any American
about Islam or Arab people. They will tell you a lot of bull**** without
evere having left their country.

Let's just wait for the elections in November, will see whether this
idiot and his criminal bunch of advisors are reelected ! ! ! !

Regards
Peter

Do you even read what you write? When you say, "Ask any American...they
will...." you are making a pre-judged remark. Whenever you find yourself
saying "All of those ______________ think _________." you can be sure that
you are wrong. Did you know that Americans come in all shapes, sizes,
colors, political affiliations, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. SOME
AMERICANS ARE ISLAMIC, you moron!
I have no idea where you are from, or what you look like, but I wouldn't
base my beliefs about YOUR country of origin on your beahvior. I'm sure
that there are open-minded, intelligent people in your contry. You just
aren't one of them.
goodbye

I know that among the 290 millions of US citizens there are some
open-minded, intelligent ones. But dear geotek I am talking about the
MAJORITY. And once again, it's not prejudice but experience.

Lets wait till November.

Peter
