Default Cheapest way to get from Beijing to Tokyo

Hi all! Well, in February i will be traveling to China and staying for 3
months.. but i would like to visit tokyo for a few days during my first
week in Asia.. Does anybody know of the cheapest airline to fly through
from beijing?? Or if there are alternative methods of travel besides
flight that would be cheaper. Also, if there are combinations such as
flying into a different city in Japan and from there get to Tokyo then
I'm definitely open to hearing those as well...

Thanks a bunch!

There is no really cheap way to get from China to Japan.
Expect to pay ca. 400 USD for a return flight.
A couple of ferries run (weekly) from Shanghai to Kobe/Osaka - but they take
2 days and cost ca. 160 USD one way.

You'll likely snag a NW or United flight for 3 to 500 rnd trip. Depending
on your other arrangements you may have to swallow the return segment. s

China Eastern airlines is quite affordable and has more leg room than many European and North American airlines. But the cheap way to go is by train, if that fits your schedule.

United 898/897. About $415 r/t PEK-NRT. There's a bunch of ferries to
Japan, but the train costs on each end will eat up any savings, and they
take a lot of time.

Yeah, ever since they completed the bridge across the Pacific Ocean from
Beijing, through North Korea to Tokyo, the train is the way to go. Take
the optional excursion to Pyongyang, it's worth it.

Another option is the train from Beijing to Dandong, then the train to
Pyongyang. The tricky part is getting from Pyongyang into South Korea,
then on to Busan to catch the ferry to Japan. You may end up needing
Bill Clinton to rescue you.
