What area of Dublin?
We're trying to decide what area of Dublin to stay in.
We'll be in Dublin for 5 days in early October. We prefer to use public transportation and walk, stay in an area with some shops, stores and restaurants. Quiet at night (not in the pub area). We're looking at hotels or B&Bs in our price range in the following areas, any opinions on staying in or around Ballsbridge, Merrion Square, the National Museum area, or O'Connell Street. |

Personally, I would stay in the Drumcondra or Clontarf areas. Drumcondra is on the route to the airport and a fairly pleasant walk into town and Clontarf is on the coast, not that far from the airport, near parks and many restaurants and near the DART line. Apart from Ballsbridge, all those you named are in the city centre and would be noisy. -- Trish Dublin -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Of the 3 you mention, I'd also recommend Ballsbridge, its a nice area and not too far out of town. Public transport in dublin is notoriously slow and unreliable. O'Connell street is about as central as it gets and as such is very crowded in the daytime and still very busy although less so at night, the area around merrion square is a bit like jeckyl and hyde... lovely in the daytime but can be quite sleazy at night. There are some inexpensive basic but quite nice hotels around the outskirts of the city centre if you wish to be within walking distance of things, try jury's inns for example |
