What's your biggest pet peeve when cruising?

Absolutely! In the summer of 2006, we sailed the Norwegian Crown to
Bermuda. Every day in their bulletin, it was not only stated that
jumping in the pool was not allowed, but it was capitalized and
underlined. Not only did they not enforce that, but one day we were on
the deck by the hot tubs (one deck above the only pool), and watched as
the camp kids all jumped in with their counsellors supposedly
supervising.

Another pet peeve is pushy photographers who will not take NO for an
answer.

Personally, I like this style. If you're able to think, you can get

However, other posters here -- the monolithic thinkers --- hate
the style, preferring to put their tray down, and push past everything
in one go.

That works if you don't have to be served individually somewhere along
the line. Where it breaks down is when the stations on line require
there to be an employee to serve you, or worse to cook the food while
you wait. Or even worse, where the food is there but the employee to
dish it out is not.

However, most of the larger, contemporary ships I've been on have
buffet stations -- Star Princess, Caribbean Princess, Freedom OTS,
Liberty OTS etc.

HAL seems to be the line for the in-line thinkers.

IME HAL had the worst of both worlds. They had a line with stations,
and not enough room between the stations for people to wait without
backing up into other stations.

This is the key point. I said I was annoyed and Jean argued with me
about it. I will deal with things that annoy me in my own way. But
telling me that I shouldn't be annoyed, and then when I refuse that
order, telling me to lighten up does NOT make it acceptable.

.nor does your annoyance bother me! I just find your
annoyance at someone's good luck amusing, especially since you are not even
in the casino! It sure does not make me guilty for enjoying something that
seems to annoy you when you can do something to avoid it.

I have never been in the casino except when I was forced by the layout
to walk through it, so I did not know that was the "good luck" noise.
I didn't even know that it was slot machines (which I presume that it
is). And I'm NOT annoyed at someone's good luck.

Although I'm sure the ships wouldn't continue to do the casino if they
weren't making a profit, so I think the 'good luck' is more an
illusion than reality in the long run. Of course, the most difficult
to extinguish behaviors are those with intermittent reinforcement like
slot machines where you only win occasionally.

Not annoyed that someone wins. Just annoyed at the accompanying
noise.

I don't play the lottery either, or bet on horse races (except on
paper). Some years ago, we were in Reno and I saw Keno for the first
time. I'm spectacularly bad at picking Keno numbers. We played a
couple of times, but what we did was - I would pick numbers, and then
my husband would pick OTHER numbers, because my numbers did not win
and that cut down on the bad choices.

you consider it entertainment, and don't go overboard, PLUS enjoying the
playing, it isn't sad. Maybe 'music' is the wrong word, because, of
course, it isn't MUSIC! Just a great sound that tickles the player when
he/she is winning (which does happen sometimes). I won't tell you how
much $$ I have poured into those machines, and lost, because I don't
have any idea. However, on one cruise I did win enough to pay for the
cruise for both of us. I realize that doesn't happen often.
I almost never play bingo, but I did on the last day of one of our
cruises and won 2600 dollars. I just don't enjoy bingo though.

The maximum gambling that I ever do is to play solitaire on my
computer Vegas style, and even then, I limit my losses to $200.00.
Sometimes this happens in 10 hands, and sometimes it takes me hours to
lose the $200.00

I have to say that my mother's dad was addicted to gambling - he bet
on the dog races and other things. So that my grandmother sometimes
had to pawn her jewelry to feed the family. And my mom's opinion of
gambling was not favorable as a result. (And she also felt that every
woman should have a diamond ring to pawn in emergencies.)

Anyway, when I was 10, we went to Colorado to visit my dad's mother,
and my mom let me put a silver dollar into the slot machine that was
in a restaurant we were eating in. I hit the jackpot. But my mom
wouldn't let me keep the money. She made me keep playing with the
winnings until I lost it all. It took some time, because sometimes I
would win a smaller payout. I learned the lesson that she wanted to
teach me.

But that only means that slot machines and other forms of gambling
don't interest me particularly. It doesn't mean that I disapprove of
other people gambling. (I'm not my mother.)

Nor does it mean that I find the ding ding ding anything but
irritating.

If you can't avoid the ships photogs you'd be a pushover for the peddlers in
Mexico.

My husband loves music.......any kind and he isn't happy when there is
none until evening other than a few times on the lido deck. While
others enjoy a good book or games he prefers to just sit and listen to
music.

Allen, haven't been on Celebrity in a few years, unfortunately, but I
can heartily recommend RCCL's Voyager and Freedom-class ships with their
Cafe Promenades that feature hot, fresh, delicious, FREE Seattle's Best
coffee.

I admit to being quite annoyed on the old Westerdam during an Alaskan
cruise. In the dining room, there was a Chinese-appearing string
quartet playing each night. One evening, I went over and asked them if
they'd play Dixie for Mrs. Nonny and me. Believe it or not, they didn't
know the tune at all. If a cruise line hires musicians, I strongly feel
that they should be screened and only musicians proficient in playing
Dixie should be hired.

Peri, is the Seattle's Best coffee free or is there a charge for it?

The Azamara Journey buffet area had a couple of freshly ground coffee
machines, self service, and it was very good coffee. This was one cruise
that we didn't have to pay to get good coffee.
