Default Trying to fine Schonbrunn, Germany

We will be in Germany in September. We would like to trace some
"roots".

Supposedly, the family came from Schonbrunn, Germany. When I look on
ViaMichelin, it has directions to 28 locations.

Does Schonbrunn mean something else over there?

Schönbrunn is spelled that way. A search on DB travel guide returns
around 25 different Schönbrunn addresses mostly in Germany so you've
probably to find out a little more about the roots to find the right
Schönbrunn.
Most famous Schönbrunn is probably Schloss Schönbrunn , the palace in
Vienna.
Schönbrunn could translate as "Schön" nice-beautiful "brunn " spring-well.

Lennaet,

Thank you so much for the response. I was afraid of that. I think I'm
stumped. All we have is Shönbrunn.

Did you try Schönbrunn? :-)

Does Schonbrunn mean something else over there?

Anything else but what?

Schön - beautiful
Brunn(en) - well, fountain, spring water

There were more than 10 Schönbrunn in the former Eastern German regions
like Schlesien (Silesia) or Western and Eastern Prussia (-1945)

Today they all have Polish or Russian names.

Good luck.... :-D

Cathy,

What is the surname of the family?

Joe in Texas

Joe,

I think I am getting somewhere.

The surname is Kregler. Someone told me about Das Telefonbush. It
shows that there are only 22 Kreglers in the country. Can that be
right? There are more that that in our family here in New York and New
Jersey.

Oh, another piece of information is that we think it is in Baveria.
The most Kreglers are in 96185.

Yes, you are getting somewhere.

Germany telephone directory at http://www.dastelefonbuch.de/ has 4 Kregler
listings in 96185 Schoenbrunn. There are none in any of the other
Schoenbrunn locations. There are a total of 12 within 25 km (15 miles) of
this location. Looks like paydirt.

Schönbrunn (i Steigerwald)

RegBez : | +------- Oberfranken

And, as an extra kicker, there are 13 Lederer listings in 84036 Landshut,
which another 84036 Schoenbrunn is part of. What a coincidence! Same name,
but different locations.

Schönbrunn

Good luck.
