Default Favorite Asian destination ?

I really like to travel to Asia. So far I have been to the Maldives,
Bali, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Next year I'd like to spend
some time in Asia again and I'd like to know your favorite destination
and experiences to get some new ideas ...

Which is your favorite Asian destination and why ?

Kuala Lumpur for the food.
Chiang Mai for the food
Hong Kong for the food.
****, I'm hungry now.
Just about anywhere in Indonesia, and not just for the ubiquitous Padang
Rumah Makan
(Java alone has a wealth of incredible places to travel to)
India is a fabulous, if sometimes a little difficult, destination where you
can experience sensory overload at every turn.
Nepal is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, but from your list you
seem to prefer to concentrate on areas a little further East than the
subcontinent.
Eastern Malaysia is wonderful and not heavily touristed.

Absolutely Nepal. One of the finest countries in the world, both for
its grand mountain and lowland scenery, but also for its exceptional
multi-ethnic cultures , wildlife, unique architectures, and fine
plants: 32 types of rhododendron, 61 ethnic groups, 43 languages.
(English and other foreign languages are spoken widely.)

This is a wonderful time to visit Nepal, as the country is peaceful for
the first time in a decade. October-November is the best season
because of the fine weather. Summer is monsoon time.

Another good time is around 10 May, when there is normally a weather
window in the Mount Everest region and the rhododendrons are superb
(this year they were the finest in decades and I was lucky to be there
then, on my eighth trip to this wonderful country).

Tokyo, the most exciting city in the world.

The Angkor ruins, one of the most incredible sights.

Thailand for beaches, temples, great food, and Buddhism.

Indonesia hands down!
Most diverse country in Asia, if not the whole world.
Over 17000 islands to choose from, Bali is just one of them.
Tropical beaches, volcanoes, jungle, hundreds of different ethnic groups.
My personal favorite destinations there a (Not in this order) West coast
Sumatra (+ islands), North Sulawesi and Sanger-talaud islands, Banggai
islands (middle Sulawesi), Maluku islands, and Flores/Timor.
And much more yet to discover! :-)

Forgot to mention, the truly fantastic people!
I especially like to mention the friendly cheerfullness of the Maluku
people, the hospitality of the Sangir-Talaud folks, and the hospitality and
respect I encountered while staying with the Bajo people in the Banggai
archipelago.
