I think it comes mainly from Merkins living near Tampa(x).

This is a case where google might mislead rather than help: you have
St. Pete's in the Vatican, for example.

It saves six keystrokes.

Posting nothing saves even more keystrokes.

Russians often shorten it to "Pitr", so what the heck?
