Default Ray's Pizza - What Happened?

I travel to New York City frequently and on my
most recent visit I went to Ray's Pizza on 6th Avenue
at West 3rd Street in the Village, as I always do, and
it was closed! Empty!
I have always loved their pizza. What happened?
Thanks.

There are several Ray's pizza shops in Manhattan. For the original Ray's
Pizza (which is fantastic), see
http://www.nysite.com/westside/a8/famray.htm which I found just by
googling for "Ray's Pizza".

From Seinfeld episode... The Maid
===================================
JERRY: What's around you?
KRAMER: I'm lookin' at Ray's Pizza. You know where that is?
JERRY: Is it Famous Ray's?
KRAMER: No. It's Original Ray's.
JERRY: Famous Original Ray's?
KRAMER: It's just Original, Jerry!
===================================

I guess that's a NYC joke.

This is an outlet of the "Famous Original Ray's" chain, but I don't
think it's their original location.

But the fact is, there are about 7 different chains with "Rays" in
their names (Famous Original Rays, World Famous Rays, etc., etc.). As
for whether any of them are "fantastic," to each his/her own.
