Quite to the contrary. Although most Europeans are exposed to the nasty
cheap mass-market swill that passes for "beer" in the USA, there are in
fact a *lot* of very small breweries that make very credible beers in
many styles. We have ales that would please British beer drinkers,
decent lagers, even special beers quite similar to Belgian styles.

Do you know of any outlets in New England ?

Depends on where in New England. Some parts are better for this sort of
thing than others are. Boston and Portland (Maine) come to mind.

We also get imports in good shape from all over Europe.

If I want European Beer - I go to Europe :-)

Still, it puts paid to "they don't sell beer [in America]."

Mixi? Original? WORK? Not bloody likely. Can you
imagine? Mixi doing real work? It's hilarious!

If endless unnecessary whining (or whinging) and posting loads of
irrelevant tripe to r.t.e were profit-making activities, Mixup
would probably be wealthier than Bill Gates and Warren Buffett
combined.

How about Central Conneticut, or Southern MA (near Providence).

Hi Mixi, it works again for me...

I understand for architecture. It's as difficult to deny artistic
rights to an architect than the contrary. Nevertheless all the
jurisprudency published in the bulletin of the cour de cassation
concern the copy of the drawings or scale models of an architect or the
substitution by another architect. I didn't find some about the
photography of a realised building. So I don't know for this case even
if I will be amased that it didn't exist.

The Eiffel Tower is only a listed monument "inscrit" since june 24
1964. According to art. L. 621-27 of the heritage (patrimoine) code
(CP) which codified the 1913 law, you can do the works in absence of
opposition ("classement" then) of the administration (directeur
r=E9gional des affaires culturelles according to art. R. 421-38-2 of
urban planning code) after a delay of 4 months : L'inscription sur

application du premier alin=E9a s'ex=E9cutent sous la surveillance de
l'autorit=E9 administrative.
I suppose that they accepted the illuminations as non damaging the
monument.

I forgot... in in the list of art. L 112-2 CPI, the 10=B0 =A7 about "arts
appliqu=E9s". It seems to correspond roughly to design. A jurisprudency
recognised in 1967 some artistic rights to the industrial "designs and
models" of book V through this bias in matters of counterfeiting (the
1957 law is now in the CPI). Again, the published jurisprudency
concerns the copy of drawings of projects (including furniture) or the
copy of the physical object itself but I didn't find jurisprudency
about the photography of such objects notably on the public domain and
above all if it's not the principal subject. All object is not
concerned by the law (cf. Cass civ 23.11.65, Bull, n=B0641). I didn't
meant as well that you can't photography a logo : just that it's in the
last books of the code about industrial things : you mainly can't use
it as your own.

I don't see why someone should profit twice from a single instance of
work.

If you deny to somebody else the possibility to be recognise as an
artist I hope that you have copyrighted none of your own art
production.

If it is _art_ production, then the principle purpose of the work is
art. If it is architecture, than the principle purpose of the work

is
construction of a building.

Anyway, copyright is inherent in orginal creative works as soon as

they
are fixed in a tangible medium. However, I don't worry too much

about
copyright. I actually find it more profitable and much simpler in

most
cases to simply be paid a fee for taking pictures and then sign over

the
rights to the results to a client. I have a low opinion of
photographers who attempt to gouge clients for every single print and
use of their photos. I usually grant very broad reproduction rights

for
a fixed and reasonable fee.

I remind you that the SNETE controls the copyright of the centenary
illuminations ONLY because the author sold his rights to this

society.

I question why anyone is allowed to use part of the country's

national
heritage as his own private canvas for art.

If he had not done that, that's HIM who would have controlled the
copyright of this "oeuvre de l'esprit" NOT the SNETE.

As I recall, the Eiffel Tower is a national monument. I also seem to
recall laws against distortion of national monuments. Why doesn't

that
apply to lighting, particularly lighting that is claimed to be
"artistic" and thus alters a monument visually by definition?
