Fussy cabin crew demand better lodgings
February 2, 2004

THEY stay at hotels considered among the world's best -- but Qantas flight
attendants have told the airline that's not good enough.

They have delivered a raft of complaints about the four- and five-star hotels
they stay in while overseas.

Single beds, poor-quality sheets and holes in curtains are among their gripes.

They have also refused to sleep above traffic lights and recently demanded more
English television channels.

Travellers can expect to pay hundreds of dollars a night to stay in the hotels
Qantas staff regularly enjoy.

The Flight Attendants' Association recently won a battle for free access to the
gym, at the Holiday Inn in Tokyo.

And they forced Frankfurt's sumptuous Mainz Hilton in to order new linen.

The hotel was also asked not to give Qantas staff rooms above traffic lights.

Other gripes from the association's international division have included:

THE lack of English television channels at hotels in Frankfurt and Tokyo;

LONG waits for hotel rooms with fridges in Los Angeles; and

COMPLAINTS about the food served up at airport restaurants.

Can you blame them - most tourists sit on their butts during the
flight and then hava a sleep in. Cabin crew work their nuts off
during the flight and have a quick turn around.

but on the other end the crew gets into a free hotel room and get drunk and
have wild sex parties ... then they accumulate all kinds of contraband and
carry it thru airport security and customs w/o anyone troubling them ...

That's because many of hotels in that category are indeed rather poor
(especially those in airport or city centre locations). The Cabin Crew
suffer from it more, because they are regular users.

Let's take a more objective glance at the matter (at least in the object
view of one who is self-employed and whose profits at the end of the year
depend upon many factors one of which is money I don't **** away on travel
expenses...

A. With as much time between flights and as few hours as their work rules
provide, the *******s can sleep at a Motel 6 and get plenty of rest.

B. When the thread count in the hotel linens becomes a concern, it's time
for Qantas to hire new aircrew. Hell, half the bloody buggers in Oz don't
even use sheets.

C. As for sex parties, a "sex party" in Strine is a two week vacation
herding sheep.

D. Holes in the curtains? Get a sleep mask from the 1st class pax kit.

E. bad food in airport resturants? Damn right! It's on purpose, so
people won'y drive out there for dinner, fill up the parking lots and
generate a lot of trash.

The picture below is the smallest violin in the world playing a mournful
dirge for the beleaguered Qantas aircrew....

Quite right, too!

Single beds, poor-quality sheets and holes in curtains are among their gripes.

In a "four- and five-star hotel", I would agree.

They have also refused to sleep above traffic lights and recently demanded more
English television channels.

Presumably, the traffic light thing is about those things that make
noise... they often are silenced at night, but cabin crew is
frequently trying to sleep during the day so they can work all
night...

Travellers can expect to pay hundreds of dollars a night to stay in the hotels
Qantas staff regularly enjoy.

And Qantas pays tens of thousands of dollars to the hotels to
accommodate the crews...

The Flight Attendants' Association recently won a battle for free access to the
gym, at the Holiday Inn in Tokyo.

I'll bet Qantas negotiated the access, and the Association "battled"
Qantas to negotiate!

And they forced Frankfurt's sumptuous Mainz Hilton in to order new linen.

I'd bet they didn't. More likely the FA's told Qantas that the
allegedly "sumptuous" Mainz Hilton had grotty linen, so Qantas told
the Hilton that if they wanted to keep the account, they'd better
conform to the standards expected of them.

The hotel was also asked not to give Qantas staff rooms above traffic lights.

Notice the lack of the words "demand", "forced", etc?

I'd bet the issue was that Qantas asked the hotel to give their staff
rooms that would be quiet during the day...

Other gripes from the association's international division have included:

THE lack of English television channels at hotels in Frankfurt and Tokyo;

Seems like good feedback from staff to management!

LONG waits for hotel rooms with fridges in Los Angeles; and

Sounds reasonable! If the hotel won the Qantas contract on the basis
of having rooms with fridges, making Qantas staff wait seems like a
valid complaint!

COMPLAINTS about the food served up at airport restaurants.

Sounds reasonable!

Poor little fairies..... We used to stay at roadside motels
after working our arses off for long periods of time doing
work that would make these little girls keel over and die,
and be expected to be back up in a few hours to start all
over again. We were too ****ing tired to care about wether
the bed was a double, didn't even notice the curtains or
sheets, sure as **** weren't even going to think about
turning on a TV and would've needed to be on speed to go to
a gym.

Like I said, poor little fairies.....

They get to travel and sleep in luxury digs while big
strong he-men get flea pits and are too tired to care.

Thats lazy fairy capitalism for you.

Maybe you should get someone else to negotiate your contract?

Have you heard that the tourists paid for their flights and Qantas staff
goes for free? They are entitles to have a sleep in and I don't hear about
quick turn-around of Qantas staff as many of them have been there for many
years.

Qantas staff already gets very good hotels in Singapore Hong Kong, London
Auckland, Christ Church, Las Angeles, New York and many other countries
(4-star and above) and in reality they don't deserve 5-star hotels when they
produce 3-star service during their flights.

From personal experience as well as many others comments (when you view the
airline quality web page), you will notice that their treatment to
passengers during their flights are very quite cumbersome. How many night
flights (when I cannot sleep during flights) I call for service when to be
ignored to a point that I leave my seat to approach them and see them
sitting together chatting away at the gallery. Many times they forget the
order or simply provide it at the end of the flight.

Many passengers complain to Qantas but falls on some deaf ears. It would
take someone that has plenty of shares in Qantas, a Qantas Club membership
with Qantas Frequent Flyers gold to get anywhere as they treat their
business class and first class passengers with royalty.

They are pure whimps and I am sure that there would be plenty of
air-stewards (both male and female) that would take up the position
especially after the collapse of Ansett so before they whinge more, they
should give appropriate service before they are considered a better hotel
etc. I can understand that they should have a gym in the hotel.

"They work hard" ****, that is the biggest wank I have heard.
