S80 767 TOO OLD SHOULD BE RETIRED!!!!
S80s mostly used by AA and 767s used by AA and it now appears Quantas, are too old and should be retired....
I flew AA 767s to Hawaii from Chicago back in the 80s!!!!!!! I now will only fly the 777 with UA to Hawaii...... I go out of my way to avoid these planes and also the 737s if I can......some 737s are also too old....... I wrote AA about their S80s to FL and it appears they now use 757s more often....whether my letter mattered is not important......we have more choices and I use the 757 whenever possible...... AA even uses 767 and a 777 sometimes from Chicago to or from FL.......repositioning possibly..... |

How old is "too old," and on what basis do you make that judgement? What's your background in airframe and powerplant maintenance and inspection? What specific age-related problems do you believe the aircraft you're concerned about show? Bob M. |

I flew AA 767s to Hawaii from Chicago back in the 80s!!!!!!! The U.S. Air Force is still flying 50-year-old B-52s, and they are doing a fine job. The USAF hasn't replaced them because they are still fulfilling the roles assigned to them in a satisfactory way. If the military finds "old" planes adequate to the task, then this is only even more true for commercial airlines. I go out of my way to avoid these planes and also the 737s if I can......some 737s are also too old....... Ryanair just received a few brand-new 737s a few days ago. Some 737s are old, some are fresh out of the factory. |

Your letter had nothing to do with it. It had nothing to do with the fuel efficiency of the MD80 versus other planes. Did you NOT read the reports stating why they were parking the MD80s? You do realize that there are quite a few 767's that are newer than some 777's? After all, Boeing still makes the 767. The first 757 was delivered in 1982. Your posting indicates you won't fly 767s, but seem to have no problems with 757s. The 757 first flew February 19, 1982 The 767 first flew September 26, 1981 This seems hardly a basis for refusing to fly the 767 while praising the 757 |

In any case, the OP's refusal to fly 737 because of age (first flew 1967) is stupid, since they still make new 737's. It's not a big deal to find out which model the airline is flying to your destination. The OP refuses to fly the 767 but loves the 757, even though it first flew only months after the first 767. |

If you maintained automobiles the way airplanes are maintained, though, you could drive them for 100 years without any problem at all. Anthony, you are a ****ing idiot. You would not know the difference between a well maintained airplane, a poorly maintained airplane, or a paper airplane. |

On 8/4/2008 4:46 AM Mxsmanic ignored two million years of human
evolution to write: I only worry about aircraft when I have reason to suspect poor maintenance or the fundamental design of the aircraft. What you worry about is irrelevant. You don't fly. |
