Probably because the expected penalty would not be any time in prison. OK- that's reasonable, but it's about time this kind of thing was taken seriously. There are lots of news reports of people doing similar things, with similarly nothing much happening to them. What was the real danger? The door isn't coming open at 10000 meters. So, you just have a couple of bad drunks. It makes a largely uncomfortable experience more uncomfortable. Try to stop defending assholes for the sake of contrarianism. Besides, at least one of them purportedly attacked a flight attendant with a vodka bottle, so the prudent thing would have been to get them off the plane. There have been multiple reports of people "trying" to open the door of airliners. This is what I was referring to, not threatening or attacking air crew. Let's not pretend there is a danger to passengers because a drunk tried to open an aircraft doot. |

"Bartc" wrote in message om... "mrtravel" wrote in message What stops the door being opened at 33000 feet? -- Bartc Most (not all) aircraft doors are the 'plug' type that open inward. At altitude the pressure in the aircraft will oppose any pull on it with a force equal to the pressure differential. Even a modest 5 psi difference would make this impossible. If the door is 70" high by 20" wide the force holding it closed would be around 3.5 tons ! Keith |

Although it's possible the mechanism requires it to move inwards slightly first. I've never really paid much attention.. until now. -- Bartc |
