Default China Visa From BKK or Singapore

I am in Hawaii and, AFIK, I cannot apply for a Chinese visa by mail by
myself. I will be staying in Bangkok and Singapore for several weeks each
before heading to China. Seems possibly easier to just get the visa in
Bangkok or Singapore.
How long does it take for an American citizen to obtain a multiple entry
visa for China from the embassy in Bangkok or Singapore? Any particular
hassles?
Thank you.

No problem in either place and I have done both. Singapore may be the
easiest to get to or you can use an agent in Bangkok. You can go to
the websites for the Chinese Embassies and see what the costs are
yourself. I paid extra to get my last visa in Singapore because I
wasn't going to be there long enough for the normal wait. It was very
easy. Just fill out the form, leave your passport and picture and
come back pay and pick it up in whatever number of days you have
chosen.
