Any 'non-guide-book' hints, tips, experiences out there re Rethymnon, Crete
(or, indeed, Crete itself!)?

Many thanks,

Surreyman

We just brushed by Rethymnon, but spent several days in and around Chania.
We enjoyed Crete: spent time in Plakias, Panormo, Heraklion.
A couple cool places:
Frangokastello (Venetian ruins)
George Hatzidakis' military museum in the village of Askifou
Knossos ruins
Archaeological museum in Heraklion

Yep, Knossos, Santorini & Samaria are our main aims.
Thanks for your add-ons.
