Default Vancouver to Calgary

The last time we took about 10 days. Personally I prefer to end up in
Vancouver, which is a very beautiful city with lots of entertainment, esp.
restaurants.

How much time would I need to drive from Vancouver to Calgary, when I

would
visit the major attractions (also Columbia icefields) along the way.
If its better to do Calgary-Vancouver than let me know why.
I'm planning to go to Canada (and possibly combine it with Las Vegas),

about
18 days in august 2004.
I tought I could better ask the specialists instead of searching for days

in
outdated and inaccurate travel-guides.
Thanks in advance
Chris from Belgium

It depend on what you mean by "visit" the major attractions.

It's a 12-13 hour drive - straight - so if you spend a day in Banff, another
in the Banff area (Columbia Icefield, Lake Louise MORAINE LAKE!, Takakkaw
Falls), and another 1 or 2 in the Okanogan - the high desert area of central
B.C., you are looking at about 5 days.

It doesn't really matter what direction you do it in - there is a "chance"
that Calgary could have some coolish weather, or hail in late August. Of
course, Vancouver can have rain anytime.

Beautiful route you have planned. If you have more specific information
needs, email me - born and raised in Calgary with a dozen trips to Vancouver
under the belt.
