OT Hoel's Cabins - Sedona, AZ (B. Hilton)

The poster's question recently about lodging in Sedona got me to thinking
about Don Hoel's Cabins (recall the thread?). While I was in Sedona the
other day, I took a "new-to-Arizona" friend up through the Village of Oak
Creek, Sedona, and to Slide Rock. I couldn't find Don Hoel's Cabins.

Do you know if they are still there, or are they further up the canyon than
Slide Rock? There is still a website, but I sure couldn't see the sign or
the cabins. Also, do you recall the old sculpted figures on the creek side
of the highway near Indian Gardens? They aren't there any longer. Wonder
what happened to them.....

It's past Slide Rock by a few miles, on the right hand side as you're going
north. The parking lot for the West Fork trailhead (a fairly large parking
lot) is on the left nearby. I'll bet you just didn't go quite far enough.
From one of the websites, Hoel's address is 9440 N Highway 89A and Slide Rock's
address is 6871 N Highway 89A ...

Also, do you recall the old sculpted figures on the creek side
of the highway near Indian Gardens? They aren't there any longer. Wonder
what happened to them.....

Can't help you there ... every few years Oak Creek Canyon is hit by fierce
winter or spring flooding that washes away a lot of the structures near the
creek, maybe these were swept away a few years back?

The sculptures were vandalized many times. They were made of just
sand. The artist probably got tired of making them. I believe the
artist has died.
