Default Frankfurt to Stuttgart by scenic train? (or boat?)

Landing in Frankfurt mid-morning on a Sunday; have to be in Stuttgart by
mid-afternoon Tuesday.

I know how to do this by a straightforward direct train connection
(ridden lots of German trains in the past).

But any suggestions for a more scenic if slower train journey?

Or, a way to get a one or two-day boat ride down the Rhine, maybe down
to the Karsruhe area, then over to Stuttgart by train?

Or, an especially scenic or off-the-beaten-path stopover en route, on
the Rhine or in den Bergen, where I could spend Sunday night, Monday,
and Monday night? (other than Heidelberg, which I've already had a
chance to enjoy)

Thanks for any tips.

How about taking the train to somewhere like Kitzingen. It's a small
town on the river Main. Quaint hotels, half-timbered houses, cobbled
streets, good food and wine.
Virtualtourist has photos.
Train to Wurzburg, then change trains.

It's worse than that -- not just Stanford-educated, but a Stanford
professor for 40+ years as well.

I posted it to this group because this group is not heavily overloaded
with traffic; it's used by people who fly to all sorts of interesting
places, and have all sorts of useful knowledge about those places; and
so I don't think it's out of place to seek an occasional modest amount
of sharing of that sort of traveler information by those who air-travel
to those places.

I suppose I could have prefixed an "OT:" to the Subject line, but it was
clearly a query. If you didn't want to read it, you didn't have to open
it.

Oh I just found an empty space on rec.plumbery and I thought it would be a
good idea to wake the group up with a query about Led Zeppelin...
Yes 40+ years has it's toll...
Nvm that's America in it's full glory.

That would be "up", not too far and IMHO not too scenic, too.

Please note that Frankfurt is at the river Main which flows into the Rhine
at Mainz (a scenic town).

Maybe you might find a boat from Mainz to Basel (Suisse), or to Cologne
(very scenic river tour including the Loreley rock, mainly until Koblenz).
Possibly some boats also go up the Main river to Würzburg and Kitzingen
which Tom mentioned already, maybe further to Bamberg.
You might chose a local train to Würzburg which travels along the Main for
almost one hour...

Train to Baden-Baden or Freiburg, then into the Black Forest (quite beaten
but scenic), or to Strassbourg (France).
To another direction: Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Dinkelsbuehl or
Noerdlingen...
Or Cologne...

Of course the nicer places are quite touristic but that is why... ;-

Ciao,

Paul
