Costa Rica: U.S. seniors fight off muggers, killing one

I wonder if these cruise passengers were on a private tour, a cruise ship excursion or on their own? sue Since there were 12 on a bus it was probably some kind of tour. That still doesn't say if it is a cruise ship excursion or a private one. I am leaning more towards it being a private excursion, cruise lines don't normally do excursions with so few people. Rereading the article there is no mention of a driver to tour guide, so it might be that the group rented a van to explore on their own. sue |

Earlier today, I had *misread* it and, thinking the incident ocurred in San Jose, fired off an email to my TA telling her I wouldn't be going on an excursion to San Jose any time soon. I am booked for October on the Coral Princess and we'll be docking in...Limon! ~Ann San Jose would be a long excursion from the coast. |

They apparently have little interest in providing small group options. While birding recently in Jamaica recently we ran into several others from cruises. Yet the line offered nothing of interest. |

Just read this article on CNN. It is of interest since the seniors were on a tour off of the Carnival Liberty. From wire services: February 23, 2007 -- A retired 70-year-old Marine killed a mugger with his bare hands after a tour bus of U.S. senior citizens was held up in the Costa Rican city of Limon, authorities said yesterday. The retiree squeezed the 20-year-old mugger in a headlock, broke his clavicle and choked him, police said. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A RETIRED MARINE!!! |
