Default Cost of Carnival's Mediterranean cruises vs. RCI and Princess

Doing research on cost of Mediterranean cruise for Sep 2008 and found
Carnival's fares tend to be lower than Royal Carib. or Princess. Are there
reasons why this is the case?

Same reason that Chevrolets are cheaper than Buicks or Oldsmobiles... actual
or perceived differences in quality.

We did the eastern med on the Carnival Freedom last year ... and
thought it was terrrific ... and I have Carnival on the bottom of my
list ... The European cruise was quite a bit subdued compared to the
normal Carnival you may be familiar with ... so it had the Carnival
good points with a lot less of their bad points ... still had the
dancing/singing waiters ...

Actually, Oldsmobiles are quite a bit cheaper these days. Except for
the Aurora RS.
