Default Immature Cabin Crew

Hi, Craig -

This hasn't happened that often in the U.S. I am only aware of one case
since 9/11.

This happened a lot in the US, but to some extent has died down.
Surprised to see it in Australia.

The staff involved should be sacked. They don't have the required
maturity to fly as responsible members of cabin crew.

Petzl will be pleased, of course.

Crew refuse to fly 'terrorists'

Four Qantas cabin crew are being "counselled" after an incident in
which they refused to allow a domestic flight to take off for more
than an hour because they were concerned that some passengers were
terrorists.

The incident, which is believed to have occurred in the past
fortnight, became a major embarrassment for the carrier because it
turned out that the four men who aroused the crew's suspicion were
travelling with Qantas as guests of the Royal Australian Air Force.

Flight attendants on a Qantas jet bound for Perth from Sydney raised
the alarm after observing three men of Middle Eastern appearance in
business class and one man in economy.

It is understood the main reason the men, who were from the United
Arab Emirates, attracted attention was because of their looks and
the fact they were speaking a foreign language.

Four Qantas flight attendants, who were concerned the passengers
might be a security threat, refused to allow the aircraft to take
off. New cabin crew had to be found before the plane could depart,
69 minutes late.

Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon is believed to be furious about
the incident and wants the flight attendants in question dismissed.

A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed four flight attendants had elected
not to travel "because of a degree of confusion". She said the four,
who are still employees, were being counselled.

There has been concern since the attacks of September 11, 2001, that
Middle Eastern passengers would be unduly targeted in security
measures.
