Formosa Airlines: Safe?

Does EVA partner with any American carriers Ron, EVA doesn't have any American partner. (Well, it is only 188 miles from Kaohsiung (KHH) to Taipei (TPE or TSA)) EVA has another Taiwanese partner, with 757, to operate the route, KHH-TSA (or TPE). Formosa Airlines operates mostly routes among islets with turbo propellers, and has some crashes during the past 10 years. Her reputation is quite notorious, though there is no recent crash heard from Formosa Airlines. If I were you, I would take express train from Taipei to Taichung (about 2.5 hours) and from Taichung to Kaohsiung (about 3 hours). Remember not to take bus from Taipei to Tiachung - bus runs very frequent, but traffic jam on highway sometimes is too terrible. Have a nice trip to Taiwan |

EVA has at least 3 american partners (AA, Continental, America West). Also, Uni-Air is EVA's domestic subsidiary and flys TSA-KHH and TPE-KHH. There are other airlines that operate TSA-KHH jet non-stop (Transasia and Far Eastern Air Transport to name a couple). I can't imagine why anyone would want to fly one-stop on a Formosa turbo prop. Also, there is no 757 service between TSA and KHH that I know of. I agree that the train would be a good choice, or use Uni Air which operates mostly newer MD-90's on this route (and in my opinion is very safe and a well-run operation). |
