Cheapest Place to stay In Australia?
Kerry wrote: wrote in message oups.com... Where is the cheapest location, with cheapest hotels to stay in Australia (no particular city in mind). Not interested in beaches, museums, fine food and the like. Just a cheap place to stay in a room to myself for a visa run, and to check out Australia. There needs to be internet shops around someplace close, not sure if Australia is setup like the asian countries in that regard. Emphasis on "cheap" (after all it is just another visa run). Thanks a Lot :-) Old pubs are cheap places to stay and often (very often in fact) they are better and cleaner than backpacker places. I just did a trip around Aus. and found some of the cheapest pub rooms are in Queensland. The cheapest was the Commercial Hotel in Ingham in north Queensland where the room was $14 a night for one person. (August 04) This included nice clean linen and shared bathroom facilities. (Google has changed everything so I could not find this post, I thought it did not post.) Anyway, how do you find such a place, I mean I can't just go into every pub and ask, hey big boy you got a room for me? I'm lible to get my head bashed in :-) I take it that Townsville Airport is an International Airport it says, and Ingham is north of Townsville in the rain forest location. How do you get about in such an area? Do you know of any cheap hotels in the bigger cities? And to those that clearly do not know what a visa run is, that is where you live in a country that makes you leave every month or so to renew your visa. And by the way any information on how to stay in Australia for an extended period (year or two) would be nice information to know as well (I'm not a student, retirement age, have a million dollars in any currency, nor need to work). Thanks A common price was about $125 or less for a full week or $20-$30 a night in country towns The cheapest ones are just out of the main tourist areas. The only problem with most of them is that you often find yourself the only person staying there. Prices generally include a continental breakfast and shared facilities, no phone in the rooms. Why are they so cheap? Simple, they're just out of fashion. Travelers now stay at motels, backpackers and youth hostels. Regards Kerry Whitfield http://www.capebyron.com/contact_me/ |
