Holiday Inn Gatlinburg opinions

We will be going to Gatlinburg at the end of February with a group of
people. They booked rooms at the Holiday Inn Sunspree (holidome). I read
some reviews on the internet that weren't so good. There were, however, a
few good reviews.

So, I thought I would ask here! Have any of you ever stayed at this hotel?
Any problems?

I have and didn't care for it. Not recommended.

We stayed at Sidney James Mountain Lodge two years ago, which is next
door to Holiday Inn Sunspree.

I noticed a lot of tour busses parked at the Holiday Inn, and it
seemed that there were several large youth groups staying there. You
could hear some of the noise from our balcony, which was across the
stream and through some trees. It seemed like a rowdy bunch over
there, but they were probably harmless.

You could probably call the Holiday Inn and ask if there will be any
large groups staying there when you will be in town. If so, you might
be able to find out where your rooms will be and maybe get them moved
to a more remote location. That hotel has a number of wings, so they
could probably do that.

Just another comment, I also read a few bad reviews on Sidney James
and we liked it just fine. Most of the negative comments were about
visible wear and tear, which I've come to expect in Gatlinburg hotels.
We had a deluxe suite which was in a separate building with another
similar suite. Nice room, but maybe nicer than most since it probably
isn't rented as often due to the higher price. Therefore, it really
depends on your expectations and what you are willing to deal with.

I posted an earlier message trying to find a site that reviewed rental
cabins and chalets since we are planning another trip to Gatlinburg in
May. If there are any you could comment on, good or bad, please do
so.
