I meant Linz Lienz is near the italian border. sorry. "Tim Challenger" "timothy(dot)challenger(at)apk(dot)at" ha scritto nel messaggio s.com... From Innsbruck, what other cities can we visit ?
Actually, Venice is possible as a day trip from Innsbruck. During the
summer season, at least, several tour operators offer bus day-trips from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald (and possibly Innsbruck, although I haven't seen it advertised there). It's a LONG day, though, starting around 4:30 and ending late at night. (See http://www.reisebuero-hager.de/reisek.htm.) Discounting Venice, I'd suggest a day spent in northern Italy (the Sudtirol), including a visit to Meran and the surrounding areas. As others have mentioned, Salzburg is about two hours +/- from Innsbruck, but I imagine you might be passing through there en route to Vienna (will you have a car for these two weeks, or are you relying on trains? If trains, your options are somewhat more limited). While in Innsbruck, take a few hours to go up river about five miles and visit the old wallled town of Hall in Tirol. Much more interesting than Innsbruck, IMO (I find Innsbruck itself somewhat boring as a tourist destination). Will be in Innsbruck for 7 days.. originally for a snowboarding trip, but we decided we'd like to explore other cities more than snowboarding for a whole week. I was wondering if anyone can suggest another city we can go visit |

I recommend Cesky Krumlov as 2 days trip: - 1. day: arrival, Castle Complex (castle=2 parts , baroque theatre, castle gardens), night walk & atmosphere & pub.. - 2. day: rest from 1.day :-), historical center + museums (Wax Museum, Museum of Tourture...) + gallery? (Egon Schiele Art Centrum), departure. You would still have fit in 8 hours of travel on both days. Cesky Krumlov might be the greatest place on Earth, but it's simply not an option for an Innsbruck day trip. Cesky Krumlov the greatest place on Earth? Actually, in my books it's pretty close. I give it about 2 years before it's completely ruined by tourism though. The secret is most definitely out! --- DFM |

I was there in March this year. Hotels were empty, streets quiet. Pleasant atmosphere. Frantisek |

We spent a day skiing at St. Anton. We also took a trip that combined
a short stop in Oberammergau and a longer stop in Schwangau(long enough to hike up the hill to Neuschwanstein, take the castle tour, hike down, eat lunch, and shop). |
