Flying over Africa
Just tried to repeat an earlier flight virtually in Google
Earth, by means of the GPS track record, and it works fairly well. If you like to experience that too, please open http://www.michna.com/kenya2006/ and scroll way down to the chapter, "2006-06-11 – Lake Turkana". At the end of that chapter you find instructions on how to repeat the flight virtually in Google Earth. I find that fascinating, almost like the real thing. (:-) The flight commences and ends on the new Samburu Oryx airfield and leads to Loyengalani airfield, but the return track continues on a roundabout game drive and ends in the Samburu Lodge. One wishes for higher resolution satellite imagery, so you can see the elephants along the way. (:-) Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |

(:-) Hans-Georg Hans Georg, thank you for the link, we have watched the flight and found it fascinating! Having done a lot of flying from Wilson in the past we can appreciate the experience even more. My husband is a surveyor so he can recognise the features and has been a devotee of Google Earth for some time, he say`s to tell you he can see that you have gone to a lot of effort.... asante sana! As for recognising the elephants, that should come with time. When looking at our son`s house in Wellington, NZ, with Google Earth, we can even see his car parked in his garden parking spot! Pat, yes, things are getting better all the time. I also foresee that it will be easier to put up videos. A question of fast Internet connections mainly. Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |

Hans-Georg Interesting stuff, look forward to that. Most of us do have ADSL but of course some people are still working with slower connections. I`m not sure if that is the case in Kenya?
