Air Transport Association - why ticket prices are so high
In the spirit of the upcoming election, this week??s Insider Tip is
not related to fares per se but is a telling sign about why prices are so high. Everyone knows how I feel about high prices this holiday season and the jacked up rates around all holidays. I came across this document the other day and wanted to share it with everyone. http://www.farecompare.com/downloads/ATATaxHistory.pdf Recently published by the Air Transport Association, it is an enlightening view on yet another reason why ticket prices seem to be on a never ending increase and why I feel it is so important to create tools to educate consumers. The gist of the document is that air ticket taxes have tripled in the past 30 years, with most of the increases occurring in the last 10 years. The next time you get smiling politicians at your door, you can ask them how much tax they paid on their flight to/from the Capitol ?? |
