some banks charge fees for ATM transactions
and/or charge a monthly fee to do online banking


I have never known of a bank in the UK which has
charges for these.

I did a quick Google search and found an article which said
that 25% of UK banks charge a fee for cash withdrawals
at an ATM.

I also found several UK banks that do charge a monthly
fee for online banking, but couldn't find any statistics
regarding the exact percentage that do.

However, if most UK banks don't charge for these things, I
think that's great; I wish more US banks had that policy.

Only if you withdraw money from an ATM not supported by your bank: and we
have far fewer different banks than you. Ours are countrywide, rather than
local.
