Default Niagra Falls Suggestions

My husband and I had planned a trip to the Poconos honeymoon resorts for
our honeymoon BUT it turns out that is WAYyyy too expensive for us.

So now we are planning to go to Niagra Falls in early June.

What is the difference between the New York side and things to do there
and costs and the Canada side and things to do there and costs?

For anyone who has been there... what would YOU suggest as the MUST SEE
FUN things to do while there and which things would YOU avoid as
overpriced, over rated, not all they are cracked up to be and not worth
spending time on?

ANother problem we have run into is I have typed niagra falls in various
search engines and in various ways and havent been able to find any
sites that offer to send me free or any brochures that I prefer to get
through the mail?

Does anyone know how and where to get such brochures on anything to do
with that area and its attractions and lodging etc.

ANY tips on fun places to visit along the way between Michigan and
there?

Thanks for all your help
We really appreciate it.

The view from the Canadian side is better. There are a lot more hotels,
restaurants, and tourist attractions on the Canadian side. The Canadian side
has the Niagara Parks Commission parks system that runs almost all the way
from Fort Erie on Lake Erie to Niagara on the Lake on Lake Ontario. The
American side from Niagara Falls to Buffalo is mostly industrial. The
exchange rate is still enough to make the Canadian side cheaper.

I lived in the area for 40 years and never been on the Maid of the Mist, but
most people rave about it. The drive along the Niagara Parkway to the town
on Niagara on the Lake is scenic enough to make it worth the drive, and NOTL
is worth visiting. Marineland used to put on a pretty good show. There are
a few blocks of tourist traps around Clifton Hill and Victoria St. that seem
popular with the trailer park crowd but probably best to avoid.

Most places stopped sending brochures when they discovered that the
information is made available much cheaper on the internet.

You're spelling it incorrectly -- it's Niagara. A very strange word,
now that I look at it...I wonder what its origin is?

Thanks Dave
I appreciate your input VERY much.
I believe we WILL stay on the Canadian side for all the reasons you
mentioned.

I suppose if I cant get ahold of brochures ahead of time, no doubt they
will be all over the place once we get there and we can browse over them
and decide which places look fun to us.

I will keep checking in , in case anyone else has an opinion they wish
to share too

Thanks again Dave.

that out. Well now that I am aware of THAT.... I am surprised I found so

Now I am looking forward to seeing if I end up with better results
spelling it correctly this time. hahaha
Thank you for pointing that out to me!

We're taking a family trip there this summer and staying on the Canadian
side at the Fairway Motor Inn within walking distance of the tourist
attractions for $55 a night. I personally like the hustle and bustle
of the tacky tourist traps and if you do too, stay in the Clifton Hill
area. There are tons of mom and pop lodging choices as well as chains in
the area. A lot are out on Lundy Lane where you can get a bus pass to
take you to the falls area a few miles away. If your budget allows get a
nice room in a large hotel with a great view of the falls. If not, stay
in a smaller place with a heart shaped tub. There is lodging for every
budget. There are casinos for adult fun. Take a Maid of the Mist boat
tour that takes you under the falls and gets you wet. You can walk
throught the caves. Go up in the tower to see the view. Tons of
activities to keep you busy along with the usual honeymoon fun

Another problem could be that it's not spelled "Niagra", but "Niagara".
Sometimes people who can't spell can't find things.

It comes from the ancient Sumerian for "desert".

The less reliable story is it's from the Iroquois word "Onguiaahra,"
meaning "The Strait."

The Falls are also on the march south towards Lake Erie.
