Default Snow in Johannesburg!!!

Just thought I'd let everyone know: IT'S SNOWING IN JOHANNESBURG!!!
Well, it's not REALLY snow, more like a light flurry, but this is
momentous for us. We're all (sort of) praying for a reasonable snow
fall.

We had about 2ft of snow 25 years ago (10 September 1981) which lasted
for about 5 hours.

Marc, enjoy it while it lasts.

I am glad we have summer over here. Last weeks were "bloody hot" here in
Holland with african style temperatures of 36 C. Now we have a
comfortable 20C again but with lots and lots of rain.

Still I would be glad to exchange our winters for South African winters
anytime!!! :-)

Regards,
Hans

Sorry, there wasn't enough snow to actually collect on the ground. It
just all melted on contact. However, there has been heavy snowfall in
the eastern Cape. I don't have photos though.

There's a news story he

Lesotho and South Africa in the snow....

Reminds me of exactly ten years ago this month, when I did my safari
guide - field guide training in ZA. We started with a three day hike
trough the Drakenbergen on the border of South Africa and Lesotho.

And there was LOTS of snow. Specially the second day at around 3000m we
had to walk through more than knee deep snow all day long (with heavy
backpacks). We slept outside without tents under a cliff with the
sleeping bags in the snow. Temps were -10C.

It was a very though and dangerous hike and didn't feel like Africa at
all........

Regards,
Hans

Amazing! Here in the lowveld we had 3 days of storm, and were nearly
sandblasted. But the last 2 days beautiful winterweather: 24 and no clouds
at all.

Bushregards,

Corné.
